One day I was sitting at my craft table, picking up different shells and turning them this way and that, trying to get ideas of things to make with them. Suddenly, the idea of making a shell doll came into my head. I had never made one before and had no idea how to go about it. I have many shell crafting books but none had any instructions for dolls or people. So, I started experimenting and came up with Mary. I did her in purple colors, and she was not easy, but worth the trouble. I took her to work to see what folks thought, and they all seemed to like her.
So, I thought since Mary was a hit, I'd try another doll. Her name was Belle, and done in blue colors. She was even better than Mary (I was getting the hang of it now!)
Then after Belle came my little red doll, Jezzabelle. I was on a role now.
And one day, one of the patrons of the library where I worked, a man I had done many interlibrary loans for, saw the dolls and wanted to buy them for his wife and daughters. I was thrilled! So I sold him all three. I have never made another doll since, but someday I may try again! |
