Palm Trees
One of the things we really like about living in Florida is the variety of palm trees that abound here. After living in the dry, brown desert of Nevada, it is refreshing to see the green palm fronds swaying in the wind. Of course, we immediately went out and bought a couple of Queen Palms for our front yard. They are not very tall yet, only about 7 feet, but they will get up to 50 feet some day. They supposedly grow fairly fast, so hopefully we won't have to long to wait before they tower over us!
We also have some Areca Palms, some in pots around the pool and some outside the pool cage. These are beautiful palms with golden canes that are a nice offset to the green fronds. They are good for privacy screening or just as a yard centerpiece. They can grow up to 20 feet (ours are about 5 feet). We just love the tropical look they give our yard and pool area.
Another nice palm we have is the Majesty Palm. We have two in pots by the pool right now, but plan to transfer them to the outside of the pool cage at some point. They will get to about 20 feet tall. It is fairly frost-tolerant down to about 26 degrees, so it should do ok here in Leesburg, FL.
