PIN POWER

A fairy tale.....or is it?

Once upon a time, there were two children, a little boy and a little girl. They loved going to Disneyland. As fate would have it, one day they met, fell in love, and got married

They still went to Disneyland, and eventually also visited DisneyWorld.  On their 10th anniversary, they got re-married there, with Mickey and Minnie Mouse and the Genie attending.

A couple years later they visited DW again, and on this visit a great power overtook them and guided them to Pin Stations, where they discovered Disney Pins. This was 1999, and Disney was kicking off the great Pin Trading program.

Try as they might, the little boy and little girl (now grown up but still children inside!) could not resist the Power of the Pin, and began to buy to their hearts delight. There were so many to choose from!

Wherever they went in the parks, there were more pins. Character pins, ride pins, resort pins, park pins, attraction pins, more attraction pins, limited edition pins (quick, we're only here on vacation, buy them before they're all gone!)... And, of course, they each had to have their own pin, so sometimes they each bought the same one. But each had their own taste as well, so each bought what appealed to them.

And soon, they needed to buy pin cases to hold all their pins in. And then came the pin lanyards, worn around the neck with pins attached for all to see, so you could trade with other pin traders. There were also pins on hats and vests....It was mad, but exhilarating!

When the couple got home from vacation, they thought it was over. But no, the power was too strong, and soon they were on Ebay, looking for pins they may have missed. And of course, they found them. Many bids and many purchases later, they finally did an intervention for each other, and the madness stopped. At least, for awhile.

Then, one day the man retired, then the woman retired, and they moved to Florida. They were only 40 minutes away from their favorite place...Mickey's place. They could go whenever they wanted. And they did. And the power of the pin was still with them, drawing them in.

But now, they had a good defense. You see, they had just purchased a new home, plus, they were now on a fixed income so had to be careful what they spent their money on, and how much. Now, they could look at the pins and say 'Yes, we'd love to have that one, but let's wait a bit, there may be something else we need to buy (like food!).'

Of course, it doesn't always work, and sometimes the power of the pin is too strong and the madness overcomes them and then the buying begins. But, those times are fewer and farther between....for now......

The End?
